Full height turnstiles with HydraLine prove to be the solution for world’s largest computer chip manufacturer

Background

Intel is the leading designer and manufacturer of microprocessors and integrated circuits. In 2002, the company installed several Alvarado full height turnstiles at the service yard of its Oregon facility.

After nearly a decade of use, Intel wanted to change the exiting functionality and reached out to Alvarado for guidance.

Challenge

Intel wanted to provide free egress from the service yard while maintaining a high level of security.

The company was also looking to improve the user experience as some employees complained that certain turnstiles were harder to push than others and that recoil from the turnstile arms was sometimes a problem.

Solution

After reviewing the system requirements and discussing traffic flow patterns with Intel, Alvarado proposed retrofitting the existing turnstiles with Alvarado’s new HydraLine™ Speed Control technology.

“Retrofitting the top channel was simple and quick, but resulted in a huge improvement in functionality. The operation with HydraLine is really impressive.” -Chris Pulioff, Siemens – Building Technologies

Alvarado’s HydraLine technology automatically self-adjusts the rotation speed of the turnstile to the user. If the user pushes easy, the resistance is light. If the user pushes hard, the resistance automatically increases.

“HydraLine provides a consistently controlled rotation that is safe for the user and substantially reduces turnstile wear and tear,” said Nick Simon, National Security Products Sales Manager.

Alvarado Advantage

All Alvarado full height turnstiles now include HydraLine Speed Control. “The response from customers ordering the HydraLine option was so overwhelmingly positive that we decided to make it a standard feature,” said CEO, Bret Armatas. “Not only does HydraLine control the rotation and smoothly self-center the rotating section, it practically eliminates vibration from hard stops and rebounds and extends the life of the turnstile,” said Armatas.

In addition to HydraLine, Alvarado also recently upgraded the turnstile controller on its full height turnstiles. New features include enhanced lightning and electrical interference protection, even easier adjustment between fail secure and fail safe configurations, and adjustable time delay auto relock as a standard feature.

Impact

Entry and exit from the Intel service yard is much smoother and quicker than before. Users can now exit freely and arm rotation is much smoother and consistent from turnstile to turnstile. Intel and Siemens have been pleased with operation since the retrofit and look forward to another decade of trouble-free use.
