Georgia Tech University Improves Recreation Center Access Control with Alvarado’s SU5000 Optical
Jonathan Hart, Assistant Director of Facilities and Operations at Georgia Tech, shares his experience working with Alvarado.
Georgia Tech University in Atlanta, Georgia has been a long-time customer of Alvarado—so when they sent a request for Alvarado to replace the existing turnstile solution in their campus recreation center, our sales team was more than happy to assist. Their previous installation consisted of traditional waist high turnstiles and a single ADA compliant pedestrian gate. While this configuration functioned on a basic level, the center and its 20,000 student users were looking for a more modern solution. After conferring with Alvarado’s Dan Gardner, the decision was made to purchase and install a four-lane set of Alvarado’s SU5000, motorized barrier optical turnstiles with ADA compliant passage widths. We recently followed up with Jonathan Hart, Assistant Director of Facilities and Operations, to ask how the new installation was working out.
Alvarado: What are the benefits to your recreation center as a result of working with Alvarado?
Jonathan: Simply put, the benefits are numerous. The most important being that all passage lanes are 100% ADA compliant, so we don’t have to rely on one gate as our ADA entry or exit. The Alvarado turnstiles also offer safety and security features with embedded intelligence – like audible and visual alerts, and sensors that detect piggy-backing or tailgating. [All these features] help our staff be more vigilant and observant.
Alvarado: Why did you decide to partner with Alvarado?
Jonathan: Great question! Since we previously had Alvarado turnstiles installed in our building, I opted to look into using Alvarado as part of our replacement project. Alvarado has always provided great customer service and we have a great working relationship. During the selection process [Alvarado Sales Representative] Dan Gardner, helped us select the model and options which best served our needs. Our focus was on functionality and performance, but also uniformity and a clean professional look. So far, the Alvarado turnstiles have met all of our criteria.
