For the past three years, the engine powering the Cavs’ loaded ticket strategy has been Alvarado’s VenueView360 software platform, which has been integrated with key systems within the arena, including real-time interfaces with two different point-of-sale systems. This makes it possible to redeem loaded tickets at all food and beverage terminals in the arena, as well as at the Cavs team shop.
Cavs fans rewarded with stored value
Fortunately for the Cleveland Cavaliers, drawing fans to games these days isn’t a problem. With this year’s NBA finals appearance capping off a remarkable season, the Cavs are already generating plenty of excitement for the upcoming 2015-16 campaign.
Still, they don’t take their fans for granted. One way that the Cavs have rewarded their loyal season ticket holders is with bonus stored value credit associated with each individual ticket throughout the regular season. These “loaded tickets,” as they are commonly referred to, have not only been a hit with the fans, but have also helped to drive concession and merchandise revenue to new levels.
The stored value can be used to purchase concessions and merchandise at Quicken Loans Arena by presenting the ticket at the time of purchase. To redeem the stored value, the ticket bar code is scanned and any available value is automatically applied to the transaction.

VenueView360 has also been implemented with a live interface to the Cavaliers’ Veritix ticketing system and Flash Seats digital ticket marketplace. This means loaded ticket offers for Cavs games and other events at the Q can be made available for sale through ticketing, with the stored value component of the ticket enabled/functioning flawlessly, regardless of whether a ticket is delivered as a traditional printed or digitally delivered ticket. Even if tickets are transferred through the digital marketplace, VenueView360 makes it possible for the stored value to follow the ticket.
VenueView360 provides many benefits in addition to a loaded ticket stored value solution.
“VenueView gives us the flexibility to expand what we do”, said Kevin O’Toole, Cavaliers Senior Director of Business Intelligence. “With VenueView360 we can also offer an account based solution that would allow our fans to use available credit over multiple games and also allow them to allocate the value between their tickets.”
“In addition to stored value, VenueView360 is a comprehensive loyalty platform,” said Tim Laib, Director of Development for Alvarado’s Sports & Entertainment division.
VenueView360 includes an automated rewards engine that allows a team to flexibly define reward criteria and the rewards fans receive, including stored value, points, coupons or invitations to special events.
“The ability to be creative with automated reward triggers sets us apart from other loyalty platforms,” said Laib. “Getting a meaningful reward for renewing a season ticket package early, or for transferring tickets using an officially approved method are just a couple of examples.”
